When it comes to cannabis, THC and CBD are the two most talked-about compounds. CBD oil has gained popularity due to various medicinal and therapeutic advantages it provides without any psychoactive effects.

This is the reason why CBD oil is being preferred as a perfect cannabinoid for providing instant relief from pain, inflammation, anxiety, and other ailments, without making you ‘high’.

Various people across the world are learning about the benefits of cannabis, particularly, CBD. One can ingest CBD by a variety of means like gummies, vaping and tincture. While a few companies utilise similar terms for all CBD items, the ingestion method has a significant effect on how the product works, and each method has its set of pros and cons.

Through this article, we will investigate these two methods, namely tincture and oil, and one could choose which works the best for them and why.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is made by an extraction procedure that pulls out the oil from the seeds, flowers and stalks of the hemp plant. Out of all CBD forms, CBD oil is the most potent and expensive. Apart from cannabinoids, one can also find fatty acids, protein, essential vitamins and nutrients. For more natural consumption, people are now infusing CBD in food and drink recipes.

Studies indicate that CBD positively impacts the endocannabinoid system. Due to the intense potency of the oil, only two or three teaspoon of substance is enough for the day. However, exact CBD dosing can be estimated by one’s body weight, goals, and more.

CBD Oil Ingredients

CBD oils are constituted from the base oil or carrier oils. These base oils are responsible for the dilution of CBD, hence making it easier for the body to absorb. These oils are a blend of:

● Coconut oil;
● MCT oil;
● Vegetable glycerin base; and
● Hemp seed oil.

What are CBD Tinctures?

The word ‘tincture’ depicts any medication kept in alcohol arrangement. While derived from hemp, CBD tinctures are not the same as CBD oil.

CBD is suspended under 60-70% distilled alcohol. Necessarily, these tinctures are extracts of hemp (in liquid form) combined with a mixture of alcohol, glycerin, or cinnamon/peppermint oil. One can consume tinctures in the same trend as CBD oil, that is, sublingually. Unlike CBD oil, tinctures contain low potency of CBD. Tinctures have a long shelf life and dosage varies from user to user.

CBD tinctures have a higher bioavailability as compared to CBD oil. It is due to the presence of alcohol in tinctures. It serves as a preservative, which enhances the life of CBD. One can also cook with CBD tinctures by using water-soluble CBD. It allows an even faster absorption rate.

CBD Tincture Ingredients

CBD ratio in tincture is less as compared to Oil. It is mainly due to the other substances being added to enhance flavor. Some of the ingredients are:

● Essential vitamins like B12, D, C, etc;
● Water;
● Herbs;
● Melatonin;
● Sweeteners; and
● Essential oils like basil, lavender, etc.

Difference between oil and tinctures

CBD oil contains cannabidiol as an oil carrier/base. On the other hand, CBD tincture has an alcohol base. Regardless of their base, both mimic the same therapeutic properties. They are widely used to relieve inflammation, stress, anxiety, etc.

Ingestion Method

CBD oil can be ingested using the vape method, while tincture can be easily ingested by mixing in food due to its alcohol base.

CBD oil has an unpleasant taste when consumed orally. It can leave an oily after taste, unlike Tincture, which comes in different flavors like chocolate, peach, vanilla, etc. and facilitates quick absorption when taken sublingually (putting it under the tongue).

The price of any CBD product depends on its strength, potency, extraction method, etc. As a general trend, the cost of a 500ml CBD oil and Tincture is roughly the same (ranging between $35 (~€31.57) to $45, but usually, high-quality CBD oil is more expensive than tincture.

Shelf Life

When compared to CBD oil, tinctures offer an extended shelf life as it is made of ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, which acts as a preservative. One can spot an expired CBD oil when they sight a cloudy/foggy thing in oil. To extend the life of any CBD products, keep them away from direct sun contact.

Consumption methods of both oil and tincture are discreet, have next to zero psychoactive impacts. Along these lines, since you know the realities, you can work out which alternative is best for you.

Commonly, the decision between oil and tincture is an individual’s preference. Regardless of whether you are worried about the taste, how to take your cannabidiol, or the price, there are many advantages of taking CBD infused products for maintaining overall wellbeing.

  1. I am concerned, I have diverticulitis. I also have nerve pain in my right foot, hip not from diabetiies, but from a knee replacement. And chronic pain now to the right leg. I have had caplets, gummy bears and the oil. I now have decided one of these isn’t working. So I have not sent any of them back, yet! Two questions, because of the diverticulitis I avoid swallowing anything that would get down in the gut and cause burning. So what is best for me? Rub on or gummy bears. I am 81, not a diabetic. I just would like to get rid of the leg pain, or get it down to a dull roar. Cal you help?

    • The purpose of.any kind of cannabis product is supposed to balance your homeostasis, which is the foundation for the body and mind to function smoothly. Therefore, product that is TRUE full spectrum based, which means 99% of cannabinoid,terpenes in the flower can be extracted as oil to fill in the bottle. Your diverticulitis and knee pain, both are caused by chronic inflammation, and we have to find the root cause of it➡you need a customized combination oil: CBD+THC+certain strains in order to target your specific condition. Recreational stuff like gummy, drink, edibles are not going to do much.

  2. Any suggestions for giving CBD to my son who was in an atv accident and now has a traumatic brain injury? He is recovering well, but cognition and memory are still a concern. Accident was 1.5 months ago and his recovery is going well. He was originally sleeping 18 hours a day while brain was healing and now having some sleep issues. He has regular sleep pattern now but trouble falling asleep. He used to snake marijuana to help him sleep in the past. This he has stopped. He also has minor mood swings at night which is expected per the neuropsychologist. Thank you

    • You should start yesterday. I’d advise purchasing high quality, organic hemp flower and making your own oil (there are numerous videos on how to do so.) Be skeptical of the pre-packaged bottles of god knows what being peddled by hundreds of websites. If you live in a state where hemp can be legally grown look up farms in your area to purchase flower &/or seed from.
