Keith Squires the plant-based expert, author and chef was delighted to be invited to give a talk at The Houses of Parliament recently about plant-based eating.

Keith is an experienced UK media presenter and has made TV appearances in countries as far afield as Greece and India. His popular blog, keithonfood.com, has become a one-stop destination for online inspiration and resources. Can the plant-based expert encourage healthy eating for all?

“Many people are turning to plant-based foods either because they are going vegan or want to eat less meat and dairy products.”

Keith’s passion for feeding people began with home-baking at the age of nine. He was soon bringing to school cakes, breads and pasties. His schoolmates joined in and before long they were swapping cakes during the lunch breaks, raiding mums’ cookery books in the evenings and even growing their own vegetables in the school grounds.

Keith now combines his background in nutrition, Ayurveda, herbalism and cookery with over 30 years of experience as a plant-based chef.

Squires comments: “It was such a privilege to be asked to speak at the Houses of Parliament. I was invited by our own MP Hywel Williams from North Wales. I feel inspired by him and all the MP’s who came to the talk. They are all committed to finding solutions to the obesity crisis facing the NHS. Also helping the environment and improving animal welfare.

“Between them they have been instrumental in promoting healthy meals and vegetable gardens in schools. Clearer food labelling on processed foods. Removing confectionary from supermarket checkout isles. Making the cruel tethering of grazing animals illegal.

“Undertaking a huge study on the causes of obesity with clear solutions. Many of these initiatives are being implemented right now.

“Many people are turning to plant-based foods either because they are going vegan or want to eat less meat and dairy products.

“This healthy trend can reduce obesity which often leads on to type 2 diabetes as well as the complications this causes obesity doubles the risk of cancer and heart disease.”
